Katherine L. Sterner is Cambridge Publishing's Professional of the Year for 2009/2010

ANCHORAGE, AK, August 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katherine L. Sterner, Family Nurse Practitioner at the Camai Community Health Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in healthcare.

A 30-year veteran of patient care, Katherine L. Sterner serves as a primary and secondary healthcare professional for a fishing village of 900 inhabitants, a population that swells to 10,000 at the height of fishing season. In her current position since 2008, she is responsible for managing family healthcare from pediatrics to geriatrics and educating patients on a variety of medical issues such as diabetes and hypertension. Ms. Sterner previously served in the Air Force Nurse Corps, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 10 years of active duty and 12 in the reserves. She attributes her success to her diligence, tenacity and ability to make the most of every opportunity that comes her way.

Ms. Sterner is a certified nurse practitioner and a registered nurse. She also completed a postgraduate course in acute care nurse practitioner studies at Loyola University in Chicago in May 2003, postgraduate training in nurse practitioner studies in 1992 at the University of Kentucky, a bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Michigan in 1979, and her associate degree in nursing at Grand Rapids Community College. She is a member of the Alaska Nurse Practitioner Association and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners. For outstanding contributions to her field, she was named Professional of the Year by Cambridge Publishing for 2009/2010. In her spare time, Ms. Sterner volunteers with her local church and at the Downtown Soup Kitchen. Ms. Sterner aspires to one day teach as a professor at the university level.
